NCR's new high speed checkout
NCR have launched a new self checkout that it hopes will further speed up the in-store checkout process. It introduces a checkout that uses imaging technology to automatically scan products placed on a conveyor belt. Tesco are the first to trial this technology, installing four checkouts at its new store in Lincoln, England. The system can process up to three customers in parallel using a new rotating turntable and re-designed collection area for scanned items. It automatically finds the barcode on any side of the product and can scan up to 60 items per minute. Nigel Fletcher, Productivity Director at Tesco UK, said: "We are always looking for innovative ways to support our colleagues to give great service and to improve the shopping experience for our customers. We're looking forward to seeing what our customers in Lincoln think of the new checkouts over the coming weeks and months." Ronen Levkovich, EMEA Vice President at NCR Retail, commented: "As consumers increasingly expect a better experience, incorporating innovative software and hardware becomes increasingly important."
